Doing it, one step at a time
Option A: the Smarters desktop app
Download the Windows or macOS installer from the IPTV Smarters site, install it, open it, then choose Login with Xtream Codes API and enter your three values. This is the closest thing to the television experience and the one to pick if the computer is going to be a regular viewing device rather than a test.
Option B: VLC with the M3U link
With VLC installed, press Ctrl+N, or Cmd+N on a Mac, paste the M3U link and press Play. Ctrl+L opens the playlist pane, which lets you move through channels by group rather than guessing. VLC has no guide, so treat this as a way to check the account rather than a way to live with it.
Option C: the browser player
Open the web player address from your activation message in Chrome or Edge and sign in. There is nothing to install and nothing to configure, which makes it the quickest possible way to confirm an account is live, including from a work laptop you are not allowed to install software on.
Test the account here before touching any television
Open the browser player, sign in, and search the guide for the channels from your own country. That single check answers the only question that matters before you spend an evening on hardware, and it works from a laptop in a hotel on the day you arrive.
Use a wired connection for anything in 4K
Laptops default to Wi-Fi and often to the 2.4 GHz band, which is comfortably the busiest part of the spectrum in a block of flats. If a 4K stream stutters on the computer, plug in a cable or move to 5 GHz before concluding the service is at fault.
Cast the computer to the television if you would rather not install anything
Chrome can cast a tab to any Chromecast or Chromecast-capable television, and Windows can mirror over Miracast with Win+K. Neither is as good as running a player on the television itself, but both work in a rented flat where you would rather leave the set alone.
When it goes wrong, and why
VLC opens the playlist but nothing plays
VLC is still parsing a very large file. Let the playlist pane finish filling before clicking anything, then double-click a channel. If one particular channel refuses to start, try its HD or SD counterpart before assuming a fault; both sit in the same group.
The browser player has audio but no picture
That is usually hardware acceleration in the browser rather than the stream. Turn it off in the browser settings and reload the page. Failing that, try the other browser: Chrome and Edge do not always fail on the same channels.
The desktop app will not install on a work laptop
Managed machines often block unsigned installers, and there is no way around that which you should be attempting on company hardware. Use the browser player instead: it installs nothing, stores nothing, and works in Chrome or Edge.
