IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV Without Buying Any Extra Hardware

Samsung sets run Tizen rather than Android, which is why every sideloading trick you may have read about elsewhere is beside the point here. You install a player from Samsung's own store and point it at your account. Anything from the 2016 model year onward manages this with no additional hardware whatsoever, which is worth knowing if you have just moved into a furnished flat and the television came with it. There is nothing to buy, nothing to plug in, and nothing that leaves a mark on somebody else's equipment.

Before you start

  • A Samsung Smart TV from 2016 or newer
  • A Samsung account signed in on the set
  • Either your M3U link or your Xtream login

Nothing to sign in with yet? Take 24 hours on us, or pick a plan and have the details inside the quarter hour.

Doing it, one step at a time

  1. Open the Samsung App Store

Home, then Apps. The search icon lives in the upper corner of that screen. Should the store ask you to sign in, and you are working on a television that came with the flat, make your own Samsung account rather than inheriting whatever is already on it.

    Get login details first

  2. Install IPTV Smarters or Smart IPTV

IPTV Smarters costs nothing. Smart IPTV asks a small one-off fee for that television but is noticeably lighter, which tells on older panels that struggle with heavier apps. Install whichever suits the set in front of you and open it once.

  3. Give it your account

With Smarters, choose Login with Xtream Codes and enter the three values. Smart IPTV works quite differently and this surprises everybody: it has no login screen. Note the MAC address the app displays, then go to siptv.app/mylist on a phone or laptop and send your M3U link to that MAC.

  4. Restart the app properly

Shut it down completely rather than simply backing out of it, then open it again. The line-up and the guide arrive. From then on the channel list button on the remote is by some distance the quickest route through the groups, and it is worth learning on the first evening.

  5. Check the model year before anything else

Press Menu, then Support, then About This TV. Anything from 2016 onward runs the current Tizen store and will take these apps. Sets older than that can still be used, but only with a stick plugged into an HDMI port, so establish this first rather than after twenty minutes of searching an empty store.

  6. Turn off the picture processing that ruins live sport

Samsung ships with motion smoothing enabled, which makes football look like video. Under Picture, Expert Settings, set Auto Motion Plus to off and Picture Mode to Standard or Movie. This has nothing to do with IPTV, but it is the reason people think the stream looks wrong.

When it goes wrong, and why

The app is not in my country's store

Samsung varies its catalogue by region, which bites precisely the people this page is written for. Either change the region in Settings, or use IPTV Smarters, which is stocked in nearly every market. If neither works, support can name a player that is available where you are.

Smart IPTV says "playlist expired"

That message is about the app, not your subscription, and the two are unrelated. Reinstalling the app or factory-resetting the television wipes the stored list, so simply upload the M3U again at siptv.app/mylist against the same MAC address and it returns.

The app installs but closes immediately

Tizen keeps very little memory free on older panels. Close everything else, then unplug the television at the wall for thirty seconds rather than using the standby button, which does not clear memory. If it recurs daily, that set is happier with Smart IPTV than with Smarters.

Sound plays but there is no picture on some channels

That is a codec the panel cannot decode rather than a dead channel. Choose the HD or SD copy of the same channel, which sits beside it in the list. On a set this age that is the practical fix; there is no setting that will make it decode a format it lacks.

Questions about Samsung Smart TV

Do I need a Firestick as well?

Not at all. A Samsung from 2016 or later takes IPTV Smarters or Smart IPTV straight out of its own store, leaving the television as the only piece of equipment in the room. A stick earns its place on older sets, or where you have decided you want TiViMate, which Samsung has never stocked.

Is Smart IPTV free on Samsung?

Seven days come free, and then it asks a small one-time activation covering that television alone. IPTV Smarters carries no such charge. In both cases the app is only a shell with nothing inside it, and needs a subscription behind it before a single channel appears.

Can I use this on a television that came with the flat?

Yes, and nothing you do here is permanent. Installing an app from Samsung's own store leaves no trace beyond the app itself, which you can uninstall before you hand the keys back. Sign in with your own Samsung account rather than one already on the set.
